June 5, 2014 – Just when we thought sanity had begun to prevail, Rep. Blake Farenthold – a Republican from Texas no less – proposes the “Trade Protection Not Troll Protection” bill! The bill would prohibit Non-Practicing Entities (NPEs) – what Rep. Farenthold calls “patent trolls” – from bringing patent infringement claims before the International Trade Commission (ITC).

Let’s see how this would work out. A foreign manufacturer is infringing a U.S. Patent, but because the patent is owned by a university, an inventor, or a business that has not commercialized it, so the patentee CANNOT file with the ITC? Since when do we want to give foreign manufacturers special treatment? What have the Mexicans, Chinese, Koreans and Indonesians done for us lately?

Rep. Farenthold has a basic lack of understanding as to what a patent actually is, who our friends are, and how to create jobs for Americans!
