The latest news and information regarding patent assertion:
RPX Corporation today announced that HP and Nokia have joined the RPX Defensive Patent Aggregation Service. The announcement comes just weeks after RPX announced that Sony Corporation had become a member.
With HP, Nokia and Sony, a total of 14 companies have now joined the RPX Defensive Patent Aggregation Service since its introduction last November.
RPX was formed to reduce costs from patent assertions initiated by non-practicing entities (NPEs), a persistent problem that costs technology companies worldwide billions of dollars annually. NPEs do not create intellectual property through internal innovation and R&D but instead acquire patents to extract licensing fees from companies that produce and sell products and services.
